The countdown is on…. Montebello Islands 2016 fishing season
The countdown is really on for the Montebello Islands 2016 fishing season. In just 4 short months the Blue Lightning Charters fleet will be arriving back at the incredible Montebello Islands.
This year, 2016, Blue Lightning Charters is celebrating 10 consecutive years providing fishing charters to the amazing Montebello Islands. The Blue Lightning team have history chartering at the Montebello Islands dating all the way back to 1995. Since 2006 though, we have travelled to the Monties between mid-June and December each year. Over this time we have built extensive knowledge of the incredible Montebello Islands and have grown more in amazed by everything these islands have to offer.
The Montebello Islands 2016 – Home of unbelievable fishing
The Montebello Islands are an awe-inspiring kind of place. The natural beauty of this area is beyond words. Fishing at the Montebello Islands is about as great as fishing gets, particularly the Billfishing. The combination of small black marlin and sailfish that hunt in these waters is amazing. I love getting out wide of the Montebello Islands chasing Blue Marlin. We have released Blue Marlin in the area in the 300kg (estimated) range and I believe Western Australia’s first Grander is lurking somewhere in these waters.
If we aren’t chasing Billfish at the Montebello Islands then second on my list is the mighty GT (Giant Trevally). We have had charter customers on board Blue Lightning Charters release GT pushing the 50kg mark. I refer to GT’s as the “4WD of the sea” because once they get their head down it’s a battle to get them up, making for an adrenalin pumping fight.
These islands provide us with a stunning array of fish, with over 450 species being found in and around the Montebello Islands. Some of the species we regularly catch at the Montebello Islands include:
