The Sailfish Whisperers Fishing Charter – Week 14- Montebello Islands
Week 14 was a bit of a windy week but the weather dropped off for a few days for the boys to into some nice fishing. There were lots of nice Coral Trout this week caught on soft plastics and jigs. When Tony and Steve from Fishing Escapades joined us for a Montebello Islands fishing charter last year (2014) they had a hot day on Sailfish releasing 26 Sailfish in a single day. Unfortunately they didn’t manage to hit those sorts of numbers on this year’s trip however these Sailfish whisperers 9 Sailfish in the 25-40kg range. They also got a Black Marlin. This week 4 of our anglers got their first billfish which always makes Captain Chad’s week.
The reef fishing was great this week with Coral Trout the main species of the week. The Rankin Cod, Spangled Emperor and GT (Giant Trevally) were also hot on the jigs. Steve also got a GT on a popper. There was also some good Mackerel fishing on this week’s fishing charter.
There was a friendly rivalry between Tony and decky Jake which kept everyone laughing. There were some great practical jokes between them. Jake got done by one of his own jokes when he swapped Tony’s reel handle over to the left side of his reel. Tony managed to spot this before dropping down but Jake didn’t realise that during the night the same joke had been set up on his reel. Poor Jake only realised when his soft plastic was half way to the bottom. Poor Jim was left tacking home half of his broomstick of a rod after he snapped it on his fishing charter with Blue Lightning Charters.
On Saturday night, when we returned, Hampton Harbour Boat and Sailing Club had a great evening of live music and a great fireworks display which really topped off a great week aboard Blue Lightning III for week 14 of the Montebello Islands fishing charter season.
