GT popping – 8 day fishing charter Montebello Islands – Week 11
This week we had a great crew from Melbourne aboard Blue Lightning Charters for an 8 day fishing charter to the Montebello Islands.
We spent time each day doing a bit of GT popping, catching plenty of Giant Trevally last week. We also managed to hook two Sailfish but got unlucky and weren’t able to reel them in.
This week the predominant species was Coral Trout, with the guys catching a heap of really nice ones throughout the week. The boys also caught 4 Cobia this week as well as some nice Red Emperor. The first day of the charter the boys caught two awesome yellowfin tuna which is always a bit of a treat. We spent the first day of the charter and the morning of the second day reef fishing and the afternoon doing some GT popping off the Monties.
The funny moment of the week was when Tony did a big cast and let go of his rod! Lucky for Tony, Jake played hero and jumped in after the rod and recovered it. Lucky Tony redeemed himself by letting Chad have a fly of his awesome drone (check out the pics below and on Facebook and Instagram). The biggest catch of the week was by Lofty (from Compleat Angler Ringwood) a 200kg + Hammerhead shark. Of course Lofty caught and released this awesome creature. With Lofty on board there was also some seriously impressive fishing gear including a heap of great rods and a number of Shimano Stella’s (check out the pics below).
