Sailfish and a real mixed bag of species- Week 9- Montebello Islands
This week we had another 7 day fishing charter to the Montebello Islands. The weather this week was great with no real breeze which led to some great fishing. We caught a great mix of species but the highlight would have to be the sailfish. The boys managed to catch 5 sailfish this week. Aidan had been trying to catch a sailfish for 12 years and finally managed his first on this trip. Chris got his second ever sailfish. While Adam and Geoff managed their first ever billfish with a sailfish each. Peter had caught sailfish before but also got a nice sailfish on this trip. As you can imagine they were all very excited and impressed with their billfishing adventures. The dominant species this week would have been rankin cod.
Aidan’s highlight of the week was spending an hour trawling when we got a heap of different species. He also had a great time swimming and snorkeling throughout the week. Chris enjoyed getting out in the shallows around the islands on Heart Starter throwing poppers and catching trevally. Peter and Andy really enjoyed trawling in the afternoons catching a wide range of different species. Adam loved having his Dad and his mate on board as well as bottom bouncing, catching two red emperors. Adam also loved his rum slushies. Meanwhile Dawson enjoyed catching a variety of fish including his first dolphin fish and GT (giant trevally). Geoff struggled to pick just one highlight of his week aboard Blue Lightning Charters as he enjoyed the reef fishing as well as gamefishing and catching his first sailfish. Courtney enjoyed his whole week especially eating fresh squid.
The guys really enjoyed having a mixed day down near Barrow Island which included some fishing, trawling and snorkeling. We also played a spot of pontoon golf with our floating golf balls this week which is always a bit of a laugh.
On this trip I was also lucky enough to enjoy my birthday out at the Montebello Islands with an ice cream cake and some incredible scenery, it was a seriously great way to spend my birthday.
The whole group are looking forward to their next trip to the Monties with Blue Lightning Charters in October 2016.
