Cracker Montebello Islands Bottom Fishing
This week we had one of our great regular customer’s Jim onboard. Jim organises either an Abrolhos or Montebello Islands fishing charter for a group of mates each year. This year included plenty of familiar faces and one newbie to Blue Lightning and the Montebello Islands.
The crew flew from Perth and Melbourne into Karratha airport excited for the fishing adventures they had ahead of them. Captain Chad picked them up from Karratha airport in the trusty Blue Lightning Charters bus , before they made the comfortable 15min min journey from the airport to Hampton Harbour with plenty of fun fishing stories being shared.
As day 1 dawned the crew explained exactly what they wanted from their Blue Lightning Charter, with bottom fishing in mind, casting, popping and trolling in the shallows! We were in for a fun week.
It was very special to see Andrew, experience the Montebello Islands for the first time. He was surprised by just how remote the Monties are and said they were “very impressive”. We have to agree with you there Andrew!
On the way out to the Montebello Islands the crew trolled to make the most of their time, catching some Spanish & Shark Mackerel.
Over the 7 day charter the guys had fun casting and popping around the islands. Using jigs and plastics for the first time. With Darrell catching a nice Red Emperor on a jig for the very first time. They also went snorkelling to try their luck for a Crayfish.
Across the 7 day charter the crew caught a range of fish species while bottom fishing including but not limited to:
Red Emperor
Scarlet Sea Perch
Coral Trout
Spangled Emperor
Rankin Cod
Robinson Sea Bream
Crimson Sea Perch
Chinaman
Long Nose Emperor
Just to name a few!
These guys are such keen anglers that they couldn’t waste a moment of their time at the Montebello Islands, they fished off the Blue Lightning pontoon catching Chinaman and Brassy Trevally.
Our newest addition, Global Venture, is certainly proving to be a crew favourite with this group making the most of two full days on her. They caught a good number of fish in close to the islands including Squid, Coral Trout, Spanish Mackerel and much more.
