Montebello Island fishing report: First Time

The crew from Melbourne joined us on their very first ever 7day charter to the Montebello Islands.

On one of the days we were bottom fishing, Cptn Chad was lucky enough to see a sailfish free jumping. The bottom bouncing stopped straight away and the lures were in, teasing up a black marlin soon after. The guys pitched a bait, and Mark caught his very first 80kg black marlin. Soon after Chris and Brian caught their very first sailfish each. The guys were very happy, as they have always wanted to catch a billfish.

They had very good sessions on Spanish mackerel, bottom bouncing and in the shallows with the Golden Trevally.

Chris gave the mackerel a chance has he put a lure out, with the lackey bands still around the hooks (gave us a good laugh J) He made up for it though when he landed his very first 25kg Giant Trevally. Chris has been trying for the last 6 years to catch one. He was able to do this on his first trip with us to the Montebello Islands.

We spent the last day of their charter off Dampier game fishing. Chris was lucky enough to catch his second sailfish for the trip. Tony finished the day off with his very first sailfish.
